WATCH: 76 Gas Stations Surprise Dodgers Fans With Tickets
Most weekdays at the gas station are pretty mundane, but for a dozen or so drivers in Woodland Hills, it was pretty eventful.
Select drivers who fueled up at the 76 gas station in Woodland Hills on Wednesday received a surprise, as the company’s newest promotion, the “Pumpire,” was there to greet them.
The one-of-a-kind umpire was inspired by the fortune telling machine “Zoltar,” featured in the 1988 movie BIG, starring Tom Hanks. Part umpire, part gas pump, the “Pumpire,” asks drivers three questions and then decides who is fair and who is foul.
If you’re fair, the Pumpire will reward you with two free tickets to the July 6 game at Dodger Stadium when the Dodgers take on the San Diego Padres. Otherwise known as “7/6 Day.”
The “7/6 Day” promotion was created to commemorate the longstanding sponsorship between 76 brand and the Los Angeles Dodgers. 76 gas stations have been a proud sponsor of the Dodgers since 1962, and have celebrated four World Series Titles and ten National League pennants together.
In fact, fans might remember there was a full service 76 gas station located in the Dodger Stadium parking lot behind centerfield (bottom right corner of the picture below). The gas station is no lo longer in service, but the iconic 76 ball can still be seen turning from inside the stadium.
Justin Turner and his wife Kourtney, were among the many people who turned out for the promotion. Even my dog “Mellow Yellow,” won a pair of tickets!
In addition to the two tickets to the July 6th game, 76 will also provide fans with a pregame VIP experience including food, drinks, and games at the old 76 gas station in the parking lot.
